Review:  Standard Manufacturing Switch Gun

Standard Manufacturing was cool enough to send us the Switch Gun, a unique and innovative 22LR/22WMR revolver that, with the flip of a "Switch," goes from what you see above to a single action revolver!

Here are the specs:

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Frame and Barrel: CNC Machined Stainless Steel
Action: Single Action Folding Revolver
Barrel Length: .75"
Grip: Large Polymer
Weight: 9 Ounces, Loaded
Dimensions: 2.125” x 3.75” x .75” Folded

We received our Switch Gun with both the 22LR and 22WMR cylinders. Swapping between the two is quick and intuitive. By pulling down on the small tab at the front of the frame and removing the pin, you can effortlessly exchange the cylinder. This same mechanism is used for loading and unloading, making it a breeze to operate even for those unfamiliar with revolvers. Once the new cylinder is in place, the process is simply reversed to secure the firearm.

What really sets the Switch Gun apart is its unique unfolding mechanism. Pressing the "Switch" allows the gun to unfold from its polymer frame in a fashion that is strikingly similar to an automatic knife. It snaps into place with a satisfying and secure click, letting you know that it’s ready to fire. In the folded position, the trigger is completely concealed within the polymer grip, ensuring that there's no risk of accidental discharge—an especially important feature for those who prefer to pocket carry their firearm.

This past Summer, I often found myself throwing the Switch Gun in my front pocket when taking the dog out for a walk, or running down to the corner store; a job previously held by my Smith & Wesson 351PD.  In the folded position, it truly looks no different than a cell phone in your pocket.

In terms of at the range, I didn't really go for any sort of accuracy test beyond making sure it could hit a torso sized target at 7 yards.  The trigger is serviceable, and it's easy to cock the hammer back and shoot with little felt recoil given the rounds it's designed for.  With the so called "sights," being a groove on the top of the frame of the revolver, this is really what I would call a "get off me gun."  A last ditch effort in deterrence perhaps.  This isn't a gun you'd use for any form of competitive shooting or long-distance marksmanship.  While certainly not preferable for a main concealed carry weapon, it's certainly far better than nothing, and I still wouldn't want to be hit with a 22LR or 22WMR in any circumstance.

The Switch Gun delivers exactly what it promises: a compact, reliable, and easy-to-use firearm for situations where discretion and convenience are priorities. It's not a gun meant for every purpose, but for what it's designed to do—be a "get off me" gun or a last-resort defensive tool—it excels. It offers peace of mind, knowing that you have something capable in your pocket when you need it most. For anyone looking for an ultra-concealable revolver, the Switch Gun is a compelling option, combining innovative design with reliable performance, and I would certainly take it over many of the derringers available out there in it's size class.
