The Mauser Model 98 (Gewehr 98) was originally manufactured in 1898 and instantly became recognized as an outstanding rifle. Over the next century many firearm companies, including Springfield, built their own rifles off the 98 action. The Gewehr 98 was the main service rifle for the German military during the first and second world war as well as countless other nations. Prized for its accuracy, lethality, and dependability this rifle became greatly feared by those who fought against it and has gone down in history as one of the best rifle designs ever made. While still used by some for deer hunting, the Mauser 98 is more commonly viewed as a highly collectible surplus rifle. This rifle is BYF coded with non-matching numbers, Waffenamt markings, some rust on the barrel, as well as slight discoloration in the bore.
