Navy Arms is most famous for their importation of Old Western style fires manufactured overseas. Built in the early 2000’s, the Model 1892 Carbine Stainless is one of the few lever-action rifles made which is both made of stainless steel and has an octagonal barrel. Most manufacturers today, with the exception of Rossi (who is the manufacturer of this rifle) tend to avoid manufacturing lever action guns in stainless steel with an octagonal barrel due to the cost of using that much stainless steel in a single barrel. In fact, Rossi only manufactures the R92 rifle in stainless steel with octagon barrel in the 24” length; they do not currently offer a rifle similar to the one here with a 20” barrel. As a result, the rifle shown tends to stand out based on its appearance alone, but there is another reason this rifle stands out. It is chambered for the classic .44-40 Winchester round rather than the more common .44 Magnum that most lever action rifles are chambered in today. The .44-40 is apparently a rather rare chambering in the Navy Arms Model 1892 Carbine version. It is in excellent shape though some dried oil is present. The only sign of wear is a couple of light scratches on the left side of the receiver. The M1892 would make a good shooter and an excellent partner for an Uberti Cattleman in .44-40. The original box is present, but sadly, is a little worn. Overall, this is a rare rifle and a rare opportunity for someone looking to have a rifle and pistol chambered in the same caliber for cowboy action shooting.
