This is an early WWII rifle as produced in 1941 at the Steyr-Daimler-Puch factory in Austria. The top of the receiver ring is marked "bnz/41" with the serial number and eagle firing proof on the left side. The right side of the receiver has the standard Steyr Waffenamt proofs and single firing proof on the barrel and receiver, with the standard block "Mod. 98" marked receiver wall. The top rear section of the barrel is stamped with the steel manufacturers code of "40R91". The rifle is fitted with the standard laminated stock and handguard with the Heers Waffenamt proof.
