Our Assessment: The Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk is a popular single-action revolver manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co. It is a modern variant of the iconic Ruger Blackhawk revolver, which has been in production since 1955. The New Model Super Blackhawk was introduced in 1973 and has gained a reputation for its ruggedness, reliability, and power. The Super Blackhawk features a classic Western-style design with a solid frame and a single-action mechanism. It has a distinctive, traditional appearance that appeals to fans of revolvers. It typically comes equipped with adjustable rear sights and a front blade sight. The adjustable sights allow for precise windage and elevation adjustments to suit individual shooting preferences. The Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Magnum is one of the most accurate big bore pistols for target shooting.
This early example was manufactured in the early 1974 and is in Great overall condition, showing light use. This 6 shot blued revolver has a 7 ½” barrel, all steel frame, and is chambered for .44 Magnum Cal. The Super Blackhawk is modernized compared to the Colt Single Action Army, in that it has adjustable sights instead of the Colt's fixed sights, and uses wire coil springs instead of the Colt's flat leaf springs. Bill Ruger chose coil springs due to their greater durability, saying that it solved one of the primary weaknesses of the Colt design. The New Model Super Blackhawk incorporates Ruger's transfer bar safety system. This system ensures that the revolver can only be fired when the trigger is deliberately pulled, enhancing safety. The Super Blackhawk is known for its robust construction, versatility and powerful performance, do not miss out on this well maintained Ruger Revolver. Please see our photos.
