Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY”. The underside of the barrel assembly, trigger guard and frame are marked “6232”. The butt is marked “6232”. The left side of the frame is marked “COLTS / PATENT”. The cylinder is marked with a battle ship scene and “COLT’S PATENT NO 6232 / ENGRAVED BY W.J. ORMSBY NEW YORK” and “ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843”.  The barrel wedge & loading rod are marked "6232".

Barrel Length: 7 ½” Octagonal Barrel

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a mortise cone. The rear sight is a “V” notch in the hammer.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are one piece smooth walnut.  There are no notable imperfections on the grips.  The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: The barrel is a deep royal blue typical of the original 1851 & the 1971 2nd Generation, with a case colored frame, hammer and loading rod. The square back trigger guard and grip frame section are silver plated brass.

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is Mirror bright and the rifling is Sharp and appears unfired. There is No erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.  

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is a faint turnline on the cylinder and two faint drag lines on the top of the barrel behind the sight. The screw heads are Sharp. The markings are Clear. The silver plating has tarnished slightly on the bottom of the grip frame and backstrap. Overall, this revolver rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. 

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with its Black Powder a Colt Form C51NIF-7/71, some .36 Cal. lead balls & a black plastic aftermarket pistol case.

The 2nd Generation Blackpowder, produced under Colt's authorization in 1971, sought to recreate the historical significance and craftsmanship of the original 1851 Navy models with meticulous attention to detail and has the same serial number 6232.
