The Winchester Model 1886 is a lever action repeater designed to handle its eras most powerful cartridges. Although the original 1886 ceased production in 1935 two modern variants in 45-70 Govt and 45-90 Win calibers remain in production. The Deluxe Case Hardened sports a checkered stock with pistol grip case colored receiver and octagonal barrel. The Short Rifle sports a smooth stock with straight-grip blued finish receiver and round barrel. A scaled down version of the 1886 the Model 1892 is also available. It was considered robust and accurate, and capable of handling the long, powerful black powder "buffalo" cartridges popular on the Western Plains. It accompanied settlers all across America and soon became the premier big game hunting rifle for North America. The Model 1886 is beautifully finished and made to the level of precision and quality that made the originals famous. This Deluxe model features octagon barrel, walnut stock with pistol grip, and color case hardened metal finish.
