The Mark V is Weatherby’s premier bolt action rifle, which easily rivals or surpasses the best the other manufactures have to offer in both quality and accuracy. These rifles have a strong lock-up thanks to the high number of locking lugs on the bolt. They have no less than 9 locking lugs on rifles chambered in magnum calibers (the famed Mauser 98 rifle, known for its strong lock-up, has only 3 locking lugs). The large number of locking lugs not only ensures a tight lock-up between bolt and receiver, it also allows for a shorter throw when operating the action, requiring only 54 degrees of turn to lock or unlock. Finish on these rifles is high-quality and comes in a high-luster blue. The Monte-Carlo stock, a common feature on Weatherby rifles, is fitted with a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. This rifle is chambered for the 7mm Weatherby Magnum, a very powerful cartridge suited for hunting medium to large game at extreme distances. A Weatherby Variable 2.75-10x power scope has been fitted, mounted on Beuhler scope bases. The rifle is in excellent condition, though the stock exhibits minor wear in a few spots. The wood finish is the traditional Weatherby high gloss, which is quite elegant in appearance. Length of pull is 13.5 inches (343mm). There is some light pitting in small spots on the barrel. The muzzle exhibits some finish loss and micro-pitting. The bore is in excellent shape with no rust or pitting, though a minor amount of copper fouling is present. Overall, the rifle is in 90-95 percent condition. If you are a shooter who wants to hunt at long distances, the Mark V is an excellent choice. Given the rifle’s serial number this Mark V was built in West Germany in 1962. As an option, there are six boxes of older, West German-made 7mm Weatherby Magnum ammo. Three boxes are 139gr SP and the other three are 154gr SP. The ammo would require an additional shipping fee as ammunition has to be shipped separately from a firearm as per federal law.
